ב”ה בראשית
בזוה”ק ירא שבת.
Zohar (see Tikunei Zohar 5b) the word בראשית can spell ירא שבת – fear Shabbos.
מה ענין זה לבראשית.
What is the connection between fear of Shabbos and Bereishis?
אך זה פי’ בראשית ברא שיהי’ כל הבריאה דבוקה בכח הראשית והתחלת השורש שהיא נקודה מהש”י שנותנת חיים והוי’ לכל הנבראים.
The explanation however is that the meaning of בראשית ברא Bereishis bara, is that every creation-בריאה is connected to the beginning, source energy, the point of HaShem that gives life and existence to all of creation. (בראשית the original first source, is ברא in every creation)
והוא בחי’ שבת כי בו שבת מכל מלאכתו כו’ כי שבת. מחזיר כל הבריאה לשורשו שהוא רצונו ית’.
This is the (connection to and) aspect of Shabbos, “For on it (the Shabbos day) He rested”, is the idea that on Shabbos every part of creation becomes reconnected to its source, which is the will of HaShem.
אשר ברא לעשות פי’ שנתן הש”י כח בהנבראים לפעול כ”ד. פעולתו. אש לשרוף. אילן לצמוח. וגם בב”ח להיות לו הבחירה לעשות כרצונו.
“Which He created to do” (אשר ברא לעשות), means that HaShem gave energy in creation for each element to act in a specific way, a fire to burn, a tree to grow, and even living beings to choose what they desire,
ועכ”ז הי’ המכוון שידע כל פעול כי הוא ית’ הנותן לו הכח אף שעושה מעצמו הוא כגרזן ביד החוצב.
However even though they have their power to choose, the intention of HaShem is nevertheless, that they know and realise that it is HaShem that gives them that power. That even though they are (seemingly) doing it on their own accord, they are still just like an ‘axe in the hand of the chopper.’
וזה הי’ כל מכוין הבריאה רק לבחי’ שבת.
The entire intention of creation was just for Shabbos, (when the everything becomes elevated to the source energy, and HaShem’s dominion becomes apparent)
וזש”כ תכלית שמים וארץ.
As we say “the purpose (Shabbos) of creation of heaven and earth” (Friday night tefila).
וזש”כ רש”י ז”ל הי’ עולם חסר מנוחה שהיא השבה וחזרת הכל לשורשו ונשלם בשבת עיקר הרצון בהבריאה
This is what Rashi is referring to, when he says (Bereishis 2:2) “what was the world lacking? Rest”. (When Shabbos came there was rest). This is because Shabbos is the returning and coming back of everything to its original source, and this main will of HaShem, is completed on Shabbos.
וזה ירא שבת להיות בכל דבר היראה מונח ע”פ האדם. ע”י נקודה הפנימיות שנקרא שבת שהיא עיקר החיות.
This is therefore the meaning of ירא שבת when there is a correct fear on the face of mankind. (When everything is in touch with its proper purpose). This comes about through the inner point (in man, and in everything in creation) which is called Shabbos, and (therefore) the main source of life.
וז”ש זכר למעשה בראשית שהיא זכרון לבחי’ ראשית שיש גם בבחי’ העשי’ ג”כ להיות דבוק ובטל לכח הפועל שנקרא ראשית כנ”ל:
This is also the meaning of “it (Shabbos) is a reminder of creation – מעשה בראשית” (kiddush Friday night), for it is a reminder of the idea of the aspect of ראשית the first (and original intention of HaShem in creating the world). For also in the aspect of action, everything needs to be connected and nullified to this energy that affects everything which is called ראשית the beginning.
(Shabbos is the inner point that connects everything to its true source and its purpose in this world. To get in touch with this source requires a level of fear. This therefore is the connection between Bereishis – the beginning and cause of everything, and Shabbos – the constant reminder in this world of our true purpose.)
