Chanukah תרל”ב 8
(ליל ח) זאת חנוכה. משמע שעיקר חנוכה יום הח’ כי זה עיקר מה שהי’ הנס ח’ ימים. ואא”ז מו”ר ז”ל אמר עמ”ש טמאו כל השמנים כו’ פך אחד כו’ כי רק הנקודה טמונה שיש בכל איש ישראל אשר השי”ת מגין עלי’ נשארת כו’. וכלל הדברים כי נקודה חיות הפנימיות הוא שלמעלה מהטבע בחי’ שמיני. וזה הנשמה שיש לכל איש ישראל אך המכוון בהבריאה שנקודה זו תתפשט בכל מעשי האדם להפוך הכל להפנימיות כנ”ל. והנה נקודה זו נשארת. אבל היה הנס שנתפשטה לכל הז’ מדות ולכך אין קושיא מה נס הי’ ביום א’. כי גם זה צורך גבוה כי בלי ההתפשטות כשהיא לעצמה מה תועלת ויתרון יש בה משהי’ קודם הבריאה. וכשעשה הקב”ה נסים. והאירה לכל הז’. נעשה ח’ ימי חנוכה כנ”ל. ופירוש זאת חנוכה הוא שנקודה הנ”ל שהיא למעלה מהשגה והסתכלות. נתפשטה עד בחי’ הקרובה אל האדם ביותר ונקראת זאת שנגלית ונראית לאדם וגם בה נתפשט נס חנוכה כנ”ל. והיא כל השלימות מעולם עליון שאין בה השגה עד עולם התחתון הנראית כנ”ל בהלאו”א:
The last of Canukah is called זאת חנוכה. The implication is that this is really the main day of Chanukah, for it is because of the final day that we have 8 miraculous days of Chanukah. The Chidushei Harim explained the words of the Gemara, that the Greeks defiled all the oil, and just one pure container was left. This teaches us that it is only the very hidden point inside a person that HaShem protects, that remains.
The principle is that this very pnimi point is what is above nature, and referred to as the number 8. (7 represents everything in this world, whereas 8 represents above nature). This is really one’s neshama that is above nature (a part of HaShem), yet the intention of being sent to this world is to convert everything to a state of pnimi. It is this point that remained, and the miracle was that it spread to the other 7 days.
With this idea we can answer the famous question: Why do we celebrate 8 days and not 7 days, for the oil was enough for 1 day, therefore the fst day was not a miracle?
For this point of holiness the pnimi point is also necessary for everything else, for if it is just on its own what use is it. (The entire purpose of the nekuda pnimi is not to be disconnected from this world, but rather a very part of this world effecting and elevating everything in this world.)
When HaShem made mirales and lit up the other 7 days, then together there were 8 days of Chanukah. The idea of זאת חנוכה is when this point which is above one’s comprehension and view, spreads to something close to the person so that he is able to see it, and this is the idea of זאת that it becomes apparent to a person – the miracle of Chanukah has spread to it too.
