Shoftim
“When You go out to battle and you see … a greater nation than you, do not fear them for HaShem your G-d is with you, who took you out of Mitzrayim”.
The Ohr Hachaim explains that the word ממך – “than you”, can also mean “from you”. This means that all the power that the negative forces have actually come from the person’s actions!
The Sfas Emes explains that nevertheless “HaShem your G-d is with you who took you out of Mitzrayim”, which means that one needs to constantly remember Yitzias Mitzrayim which was the preparation for the entire exiles, on a national and individual level.
This redemption can be drawn upon at any time, till the end of days, when we mention the new redemption in our prayers.
For this reason we mention the exodus from Mitzrayim twice a day, for in proportion to remembering we are able to awaken the redemption.
Now a person who was afraid of battle due to the sins that he has committed was exempt from fighting, teaches us that a person who feels that he is in battle (everyone) is actually worthy of being in battle and has the power to do battle, he is not exempt! Furthermore David Hamelech says “If a battle rises up against me, in this do I trust…” This too can mean that because he sees a battle rise up against him, this shows him that he actually has the power to battle against it.
Based on the Ohr Hachaim mentioned above. The pasuk is teaching us that nevertheless one should not be afraid of such a circumstance, because HaShem is with you.
The Sfas Emes explains that the fact that a person feels uncomfortable and struglling in a battle against the negative forces is atually a good sign. This is because HaShem is not allowing the person to wallow away in his sins. Rather he now has a battle because of his sins in every mitzvah and prayer. Through overcoming teh negative thoughts, one is able to repair his sins. Therefore in Mitzrayim the entire exile was actully for our benefit, for Bnei Yisrael needed to repair the sins (כור נברזל). Through the exile we repaired all the sins that were a part of their souls, as explains in the sefarim hakedoshim.
