Toldot 2
Continued from above
We find a similar idea of the ‘Tasty dishes’ that Yitzchak asked Eisav to make for him. This was also to uplift the worldly things to HaShem. And things that are further removed, are more preferable to uplift to HaShem,
[For wherever there is more hiddenness the last reminder is the taste. For the idea of taste is the most elevated and therefore the most lowly. and understand this point. (This is in reference to the chassidic teaching of whatever goes higher and higher goes lower and lower)]
And therefore Yaakov who was so holy and completely above nature, did not have this connection to the ‘tasty dishes’
It was only through tricking his father due to Rivka’s prophecy that he could relate to this level of ‘tasty dishes’. (For Yaakov to connect to the level that Yitzchak thought Eisav was on, of being involved in physicality and uplifting it, he had to first drop a level by doing trickery. It was only then that he could now go down a level to uplift it.
[This is what is meant by Yitzchak’s statement: The voice is the voice of Yaakov and the hands are the hands of Eisav. What he was saying was that now the hands, the physical, could be uplifted to the spiritual – the voice.]
