Vayeshev תרל”ג 2
פי’ הזוה”ק טוב ילד מסכן כו’
The Zohar (see תרל”ב 2) Says on the pasuk “a poor but wise child is better than an old but foolish king”, that the poor but wise child is referring to the good inclination.
שע”י שהאדם תמיד בסכנה מרדיפות היצה”ר. ע”י כך יש לו התחדשות תמיד.
That when a person is constantly in danger of falling into the trap of the evil inclination, this gives him a constant sense of renewal.
ועי”ז דבוק בחכמה.
And this sense of renewal attaches him to wisdom (see above)
ולהיפוך ע”י גסות שמלך הוא בעיניו. עי”ז שוכח מה שהיה לו גם כן:
And on the contrary, someone who is haughty and considers himself a king, through that he forgets whatever he originally had, and loses his old sense of humility and closeness to HaShem.
