Vayeshev תרל”ג 3
לעשות מלאכתו. במדרש לעשות צרכיו נכנס רק שנראית לו דמות דיוקנו של אביו כו’.
On the pasuk Yosef went “To do his work” The Medrash (quoted in Rashi) says that he intended to sin, however he saw the image of his father and refrained from sinning.
עוד ואין איש ולא מצא עצמו איש כו’.
Furthermore it says that Yosef saw “There was no man home” He did not find himself to be a man (Bereishit Rabba 87:7)
י”ל הפי’ שנתיישב בשורש החיות שלו וראה שאין לו חיים אם עושה זה שהוא נגד רצון המקום ב”ה וזהו ולא מצא עצמו איש.
We can explain this to men that he connected completely to the life source of himself and realised that he does not have any life (to live for) if he goes against the will of HaShem, This is the meaning of “He did not find himself to be a man”
וזה דמות דיוקנו של אביו שיש לכל דבר דמות וציור למעלה.
This is what it meant that he saw the image of his father. For everything in this world has an image and comparison above.
והאדם נברא שכל מעשיו ותנועותיו יעוררו בעולמות עליונים.
And so too man is created that all of his deeds and actions cause an awakening above.
ועי”ז כבש יצרו כנ”ל.
It was through this realisation of the great effect of this deed that he was able to vanquish his evil inclination. As above.
והכל אחד. וז”ש וינס ויצא החוצה כו’ שנתבטל מכל וכל שראה שזה היפוך החיים כנ”ל:
This is all the same idea, and as it says he “Ran away (from Potiphar’s wife) and went outside, meaning that he completely detached from everything (went outside) because he saw that this was the opposite of life.
