Vayikra

Rashi on the pasuk (Vayikra 1:5) “A man – אדם who will bring a korban from you”, explains that the reason why the word Adam – אדם is used, is in reference to Adam who did not offer anything that was stolen (so too any korban is not allowed to be stolen).
(The Sfas Emes will now explain that there is a deeper understanding of the idea of something stolen).
A person brings a korban from the life force of an animal (by slaughtering it and bringing the blood on the altar). Now why should a person be atoned by the life of an animal? This is really only because man gives life force to all animals, for he is above them, as the pasuk states (Tehillim 8:7) “Laying the world at his (man’s) feet”. Now it is clear that Adam who was the one that had the power of speech was above and affected all animals in the order of: Inanimate objects, things that grow, things that are alive, and things that have the power of speech. This concept applied on a general level to each and every generation. However, on an individual level if a person is not on the (spiritual) level of ‘one that has the power of speech (by inappropriate behavior), then regarding such a person we say to him: Even a mosquito preceded him in the creation (Sanhedrin 38a). For such a person (who is not greater than, and positively affecting beings below him), then it is actually theft to use an animal as an attnement. (This therefore is the reference to Adam, in his great spiritual level).
The advice therefore (not to get caught in such a blunder) is to nullify oneself to teh general klal, of the entire Yisrael (for on a national level we are above animals). This is the idea of (Vayikra 1:2) “Who will bring from amongst you” (when one nullifies himself to the general populace).
