Inner Divine Point Revealed For תרל”ב 8

(ליל ח) זאת חנוכה.

“(Night eight) This is Ḥanukkah.”

The Sefat Emet opens by noting that the essence of Ḥanukkah is expressed in the eighth day.

משמע שעיקר חנוכה יום הח’ כי זה עיקר מה שהי’ הנס ח’ ימים.

It implies that the main point of Ḥanukkah is the eighth day, for the miracle itself lasted eight days.

The eighth day reflects the core of the miracle, not merely its conclusion.

ואא”ז מו”ר ז”ל אמר עמ”ש טמאו כל השמנים כו’ פך אחד כו’ כי רק הנקודה טמונה שיש בכל איש ישראל אשר השי”ת מגין עלי’ נשארת כו’.

And my holy grandfather and teacher, of blessed memory, said regarding “they defiled all the oils… one cruse remained…” that only the hidden point within every Jew—over which God protects—remains intact.

The untouched cruse symbolizes the indestructible divine point within each person.

וכלל הדברים כי נקודה חיות הפנימיות הוא שלמעלה מהטבע בחי’ שמיני.

In summary, the inner point of life is above nature, the aspect of “eight.”

This inner vitality transcends the natural order and aligns with the spiritual level symbolized by the number eight.

וזה הנשמה שיש לכל איש ישראל אך המכוון בהבריאה שנקודה זו תתפשט בכל מעשי האדם להפוך הכל להפנימיות כנ”ל.

And this is the soul that each Jew possesses, yet the intention of creation is that this point spread into all of a person’s actions, turning everything toward inwardness.

The goal is for the transcendent point to permeate one’s entire life.

והנה נקודה זו נשארת.

And behold, this point always remains.

Though often concealed, it is never lost.

אבל היה הנס שנתפשטה לכל הז’ מדות ולכך אין קושיא מה נס הי’ ביום א’.

But the miracle was that this point spread into all seven attributes, and therefore there is no question about what the miracle was on the first day.

The first day’s miracle was the beginning of this diffusion into the seven emotional faculties.

כי גם זה צורך גבוה כי בלי ההתפשטות כשהיא לעצמה מה תועלת ויתרון יש בה משהי’ קודם הבריאה.

For this too was a higher necessity, for without this spreading, what benefit or advantage would it have over its state before creation?

The inner point must manifest in the created world to achieve its purpose.

וכשעשה הקב”ה נסים. והאירה לכל הז’. נעשה ח’ ימי חנוכה כנ”ל.

And when the Holy One performed miracles and caused it to shine into all seven, the eight days of Ḥanukkah were established.

The eight days reflect the fusion of the transcendent eighth with the seven earthly qualities.

ופירוש זאת חנוכה הוא שנקודה הנ”ל שהיא למעלה מהשגה והסתכלות.

The meaning of “this is Ḥanukkah” is that the above point, which is beyond comprehension and perception…

“This” signals the revelation of something normally beyond human grasp.

נתפשטה עד בחי’ הקרובה אל האדם ביותר ונקראת זאת שנגלית ונראית לאדם וגם בה נתפשט נס חנוכה כנ”ל.

…spread until a level very close to the human being and is called “this,” for it becomes revealed and visible, and into it too the Ḥanukkah miracle extended.

The miracle reaches down to the most accessible level of human experience.

והיא כל השלימות מעולם עליון שאין בה השגה עד עולם התחתון הנראית כנ”ל בהלאו”א.

And this is the fullness—from the upper world, where there is no comprehension, down to the lower world where it becomes visible.

The unity of hidden transcendence and revealed presence constitutes the perfection Ḥanukkah embodies.
