אלה הנסים שנשארו קבועי' לדורות הם ישועה לכלל ישראל.

“These miracles that remained established for generations are a salvation for all Israel.”

The Sefat Emet begins by explaining that the enduring miracles of Chanuka serve as an ongoing source of deliverance for the entire nation.

כי הד' מלכיות המה מסתירים מלכות שמים.

“For the four kingdoms conceal the Kingship of Heaven.”

The historical oppressors are understood as forces that obscure divine sovereignty.

וכתיב ד"פ כי לעולם חסדו בהלל והם ביטול הד' מלכיות.

“And it is written four times ‘for His kindness endures forever’ in the Hallel, and these correspond to the nullification of the four kingdoms.”

Each repetition of the verse signals God’s kindness expressed through the removal of one of the four exilic powers.

יאמר נא ישראל כי לעולם חסדו הוא מול מדי שביקש המן לאבד כל היהודים.

“‘Let Israel say: for His kindness endures forever’—this stands against Media, for Haman sought to destroy all the Jews.”

The Sefat Emet aligns this phrase with the deliverance from the decree of Haman.

ויאמרו נא בית אהרן הוא חשמונאי ביטול מלכות יון.

“‘Let the House of Aaron say’—this refers to the Hasmoneans, the nullification of the Greek kingdom.”

The priestly house is linked to the victory over Greece in the Chanuka story.

י"נ יראי ה' לעתיד בביטול מלכות הרשעה.

“‘Let those who fear the Lord say’—in the future, regarding the nullification of the kingdom of wickedness.”

This phrase points toward a future redemption when the final evil power will fall.

ואיתא בהלל הגדול כ"ו כל"ח נגד כ"ו דורות שניזונו בחסדו ית' בלבד.

“And it is taught in the Great Hallel that the twenty‑six ‘for His kindness endures forever’ correspond to the twenty‑six generations sustained solely by His kindness.”

Before the giving of the Torah, the world endured purely through divine generosity.

אח"כ כשנתן לנו הקב"ה התורה הי' מוכן להיות קיום העולם בתורה ומצות.

“Afterward, when the Holy One gave us the Torah, the world was prepared to be sustained through Torah and commandments.”

Once Israel received the Torah, creation gained a new basis for continued existence.

אכן קמו אח"כ הד' מלכיות לבעל הנהגת התורה ועשה הקב"ה לנו חסדים לבטל הד' כחות של סט"א.

“Yet afterward the four kingdoms arose to challenge the governance of Torah, and the Holy One performed kindnesses for us to nullify the four forces of the Other Side.”

The exilic empires are seen as spiritual adversaries attempting to usurp the role of Torah in the world’s guidance.

והד' כל"ח מוכנים רק לבנ"י.

“And the four ‘for His kindness endures forever’ are prepared only for the Children of Israel.”

These acts of divine kindness are uniquely directed toward Israel’s redemption.

לכן הי' ע"י נסים ונפלאות:

“Therefore it was through miracles and wonders.”

Because the challenge was spiritual in nature, divine intervention came in openly miraculous form.

The Sefat Emet teaches that Chanuka’s miracles represent an ongoing divine response to the four exilic powers, each miracle dissolving a layer of concealment and revealing God’s kingship anew.
