בענין קי"ס אחר יצ"מ.

Concerning the splitting of the sea after the exodus from Egypt.

The Sefat Emet opens by noting the conceptual relationship between the Exodus and the splitting of the sea.

וביצ"מ עשר מכות ובקי"ס בפעם אחת.

And in the Exodus there were ten plagues, whereas at the sea it happened all at once.

The redemption in Egypt unfolded through many stages, while at the sea it came as a single, comprehensive act.

יראה שהוא כענין שנמצא בעבודת הבורא ית' בכלל ובפרט.

This appears similar to what is found in serving the Creator, blessed be He, in both general and specific ways.

Human spiritual work likewise involves both detailed processes and broader, unified movements.

כמ"ש בזוה"ק ברע"מ פ' וארא.

As stated in the Zohar, Raya Mehemna, Parashat Va’era.

The Zohar describes these dual modes of divine revelation and service.

וכמו כן זה לעומת זה יש התנגדות הרשעים בשניהם.

And likewise, “one opposite the other,” the wicked oppose in both modes.

The forces of evil manifest both in detailed disruptions and in collective opposition.

וביצ"מ נשתנו כל הטבעיים בפרטות בכל מכה ומכה וכמו כן כמה מיני עבודה בשדה בחומר ובלבנים שעינו אותנו.

And in the Exodus, all natural phenomena were altered in detail in each plague, just as the many types of labor in the field, with mortar and bricks, with which they afflicted us.

Egypt’s oppressive toil paralleled the plagues: both acted through numerous specific forms.

ואח"כ בים שרדפו אחריהם היה בכללות כמ"ש ושלישים על כולו ע"מ לכלות.

And afterward, at the sea, when they pursued them, it was in a general manner, as it is written, “and his officers over all of it,” in order to destroy.

The Egyptian pursuit at the sea was a unified force rather than fragmented acts.

ע"ש במכילתא.

As referenced in the Mekhilta.

The Midrash explains the collective unity of the Egyptian attack.

וכ"כ והנה מצרים נוסע כאיש אחד בלב אחד.

And so it is written: “And Egypt journeyed as one person with one heart.”

The Egyptians were unified in intent and force.

כמ"ש ויאסר את רכבו היינו שנתכללו כל כחות הסט"א שלהם.

As it says, “He harnessed his chariot,” meaning that all their forces of impurity became unified.

Pharaoh gathered all the spiritual powers of evil into a single consolidated force.

ולכן הי' הישועה ג"כ בכלל.

Therefore the salvation was likewise in a general, all-encompassing manner.

The divine rescue responded in kind: a single, comprehensive act.

כי הים כולל כל מה שיש ביבשה כדאיתא בגמ'.

For the sea contains everything that exists on land, as stated in the Talmud.

The sea symbolizes a totality that includes all forms found on dry land.

והבריאה מתחלתו חילקו הבורא ית' לב' חלקים ימים ויבשה.

And from the beginning of creation, the Creator divided it into two parts: seas and dry land.

Creation itself is structured as a duality representing detail and totality.

וכל השינוים בצורות שונות המתחלפים ביבשה ובים הכל ציור אחד.

And all the changes of different forms that vary on land and sea are all one single picture.

The diverse manifestations of nature are ultimately expressions of one underlying unity.

ולכן הישועה על הים הי' בכלל.

Therefore the salvation at the sea was in a general, all-inclusive mode.

The sea’s symbolic totality made it the setting for a comprehensive redemption.

ולכן מקודם כתיב אצבע ובים כתיב היד שהיא כללות הפרטים כנ"ל.

Thus earlier it says “finger,” but at the sea it says “hand,” which signifies the totality of the particulars, as explained above.

The plagues showed detailed divine action (“finger”), while the sea revealed God’s full, unified power (“hand”).

Summary: The Sefat Emet contrasts the detailed, step-by-step redemption of the plagues with the unified redemption at the sea, paralleling the dual modes of divine service and the dual modes of opposition. The sea, symbolizing totality, became the site of an all-encompassing salvation.
