Vayetze תרל”ב 3

וירא והנה באר בשדה כו’ ג’ עדרי צאן כו’ ונאספו שמה כל העדרים כו’.
When Yaakov gets to Charan there is the story of the well. The pasuk says ‘And he saw there was a well in the field, and there were 3 flocks of sheep, and they would all gather there to remove the stone’
בחי’ זו נמצא בכל דבר ובכל איש ישראל.
This idea can be found in each and every Jew
שיש בכל דבר נקודה הנותנת חיים ומחי’ הדבר ההוא. וזהו באר בשדה.
For in everything there is the source from HaShem that gives life and sustains each thing. This is referred to here as the well in the field.
אף מה שנראה ונדמה להפקר כשדה אך נגנז בה נקודה הנ”ל.
Even though it is in a place that is abandoned like a field, there is still that core source
ושכל האדם יוכל להרגיש ולידע זאת תמיד
And with one’s intellect one can always perceive and know that it is there
וזהו ג’ עדרי צאן. חכמ”ה בינ”ה דע”ת.
And this is hinted to by the three flocks of sheep, which refer to chomchma, bina and da’as
שבחכמה ושכל מבין האדם זאת הפנימיות שבכל דבר יש כח הפועל בנפעל.
For with chochma, one’s intellect a person realises and understands that there is an internal mechanism in everything. The energy of HaShem, the cause of every effect.
אך והאבן גדולה ע”פ. היינו כשמתפשט בגשמיות יש הסתר שאין השכל דבוק במעשה תמיד.
However there is a heavy stone on top of the well. This is referring to the fact that when this spiritual source is in something physical it becomes covered up and hard to see. That with one’s intellect it is difficult to continuously see the truth, because of the attraction of the physical
והעצה ונאספו. הוא לאסוף כל הרצונות וכל רמ”ח אברים וגידים למסור נפשו להשי”ת קודם כל מעשה ועי”ז וגללו האבן כו’.
The way to deal with this is through the gathering of all the flock. meaning that a person needs to gather all one’s desires of all of one’s 248 limbs and 365 sinews and dedicate them completely to HaShem, before doing any action. And through doing this one is able to remove the stone
גם י”ל ונאספו להכניס עצמו בכלל ישראל כי כשכל הבריאה מתאחדת אליו ית’ נתבטל ההסתר וזה יהי’ לעתיד ב”ב.
We can also explain the idea of gathering, where one becomes a part of the entire Jewish nation, for when the entire creation is united to the service of HaShem, all hiddenness is removed. This is what will be in the future
ועתה בנ”י שמאספין הכל אליו ית’.
And until then, the Jewish Nation are the ones that gather everything to HaShem.
ואף א’ בפרט כשמבטל עצמו לכלל ישראל ועושה בעבור כולם נק’ בשם כ”י ויוכל לגלול ולהסיר ההסתר.
And even a single person when he nullifies his own will to that of the entire nation, and does whatever he does for the good of everyone else, this is called doing something in the name of the entire Jewish nation, and through that he can uncover the hiddenness
וז”ש ביעקב אע”ה ויגל כו’ מעצמו שהיה כלל ישראל.
And therefore Yaakov Avinu, who was the entire Jewish nation, was able to remove the stone on his own and uncover the water, the source.
וגם הי’ צדיק יסוד עולם שכל העולם נתקיים בזכותו ויגל מעצמו כנ”ל:
He was also the Tzadik yesod olam that merits that the entire creation exists because of him, and therefore he was able to do this on his own.
