Enduring purity within Klal Yisrael

In the Midrash: "The sayings of Hashem are pure sayings" (Tehillim 12:7)... A king of flesh and blood — where is he and where are his decrees? ...
The Midrash contrasts a human king, whose decrees outlive him and lose their force once he is gone, with Hashem, whose word remains eternally living and effective.
The matter is that Hashem gave taharah (purity) to Bnei Yisrael, and His utterance endures forever.
Hashem implanted a capacity for purity within Bnei Yisrael, and because His word is eternal, that gift of taharah never lapses.
And even though Bnei Yisrael afterward fell from their level,
Even when Bnei Yisrael later declined from their spiritual stature,
nevertheless the taharah remained within Klal Yisrael through the tribe of Levi.
the purity was never lost to the nation as a whole; it was preserved and carried by shevet Levi, the tribe that remained dedicated to holiness.
As it is written: "And He shall purify... the sons of Levi, and refine..." (Malachi 3:3).
The verse describes the sons of Levi being purified and refined, indicating that they serve as the repository of the nation's enduring taharah.
The principle is that the taharah is present within Bnei Yisrael; only when they are worthy can it spread out to every direction.
The purity always exists latent within the nation; whether it can radiate and extend throughout the people depends on their worthiness at any given time.
And therefore, when there were informers (delatorin) among Bnei Yisrael, David, peace be upon him, prayed for the children: "You, Hashem, will guard them" (Tehillim 12:8).
In David's generation, even when there were slanderers and informers among the people, David prayed that the schoolchildren — pure and untainted — be protected, for through them the nation's taharah remained intact.
And this is the essential intent of what is said, that He is "the living God" (Yirmiyahu 10:10).
This is the deeper point of calling Hashem "the living God": His word is alive and active, so the purity He instilled remains a living, present reality.
The meaning is that certainly the sayings of Hashem are pure; but also this: that from the side of the recipient it is impossible for His utterance to be nullified, and in every gift that the Holy One gives there is a power placed within the recipient, such that even when Bnei Yisrael were not worthy, the taharah remained within them, as stated.
Two truths combine: Hashem's word is intrinsically pure, and from the recipient's side it can never be cancelled. Every gift Hashem grants implants a permanent power within the receiver — so the taharah He gave to Bnei Yisrael endures within them even in periods when they are unworthy.
And therefore they are able at all times to return in teshuvah and to cleave to the source of taharah that lies within the collective whole of Bnei Yisrael, as stated.
Because this purity is permanently embedded in the nation, every individual can always do teshuvah and reconnect to the wellspring of taharah preserved within Klal Yisrael — the door to return is never closed.
And also the purity of the Kohanim is according to the taharah found within the collective whole of Bnei Yisrael; therefore it is written "and you shall sanctify him" (Vayikra 21:8), for according to the holiness of the collective the Kohanim were elevated all the more.
The special purity of the Kohanim is not separate from the nation but flows from the taharah of Klal Yisrael as a whole. The command "v'kidashto" — to sanctify the Kohen — reflects that the Kohanim are raised in proportion to the holiness of the entire people; their elevation rests upon the kedushah of the collective.
Summary: Unlike a human king whose decrees fade once he is gone, Hashem's word is eternally living, so the gift of taharah He gave Bnei Yisrael can never be nullified. Even when the nation falls from its level, the purity remains preserved — carried by shevet Levi and embodied in the unblemished schoolchildren for whom David prayed. Every divine gift implants a lasting power in its recipient; hence the taharah endures within Klal Yisrael even in unworthy times, and any individual can always return in teshuvah and cleave to that wellspring. The Kohanim's own purity, too, derives from and rises in proportion to the holiness of the whole people.
