“In the Midrash: ‘God, the Shepherd…’ connects redemption to sustenance.”

The Sefat Emet notes that the Midrash draws a parallel between the miracle of redemption and the divine provision of sustenance.

“This power Jacob our father gave them—to cleave to the root above nature.”

Jacob endowed his children with the capacity to connect to a transcendent spiritual root beyond natural limitations.

“Just as redemption is wondrous, so one must know that sustenance comes entirely from the Creator’s providence, specifically for every creature, as it is written: ‘He sits and sustains… even from the horns of wild oxen.’”

Both redemption and livelihood reflect the same divine wonder: individualized, personal providence for all beings.

“And likewise: ‘He gives bread to all flesh.’”

This underscores that sustenance is constantly granted to all by God.

“‘Gives’—specifically every day.”

The daily renewal of sustenance is itself a perpetual divine act.

“And this is what it means that he blessed Joseph—in the quality of Joseph—to draw himself continually after his blessing and his root above.”

Joseph receives a blessing enabling constant connection to his supernal root.

“And this is: ‘Each man according to his blessing…’”

Each tribe receives a blessing aligned with its own spiritual nature.

“Explicitly, the term ‘blessing’ is found in Jacob’s words only regarding Joseph, for he is the root of blessing.”

Joseph uniquely embodies the channel through which blessing flows.

“And in him was fulfilled: ‘Each man according to his blessing.’”

Joseph’s archetypal blessing enables all others to receive theirs.

“And through him he blessed them all.”

Joseph becomes the conduit for the entire nation’s blessings.

“And the meaning is: when one truly follows the inner point of the soul, then additional blessing flows to that point.”

Alignment with one's innermost spiritual core draws increased divine blessing.

“And each man according to his blessing—afterward he blessed them.”

Each received blessing in accordance with his personal, inner spiritual measure.

“As written elsewhere: ‘Drink water from your cistern, then from your well.’”

One must first draw from his own inner source, which then opens the deeper well of divine flow.

The Sefat Emet teaches that redemption and sustenance both reveal divine providence, and that Joseph embodies the root of blessing through connection to the supernal source. When a person aligns with the inner point of the soul, blessing increases and flows outward.
