Redemption Reveals Torah's Light
Concerning the matter of the Song.
The Sefat Emet introduces the topic by framing the Song at the Sea as its own spiritual category.
As was said earlier in Parashat Vayechi, there are special sections designated for revelation.
He recalls his earlier teaching that certain portions of Torah are structured to reveal hidden Divine light.
Therefore it is closed.
That portion is “closed” in the Torah scroll, symbolizing that the revelation is inward and concealed.
And likewise, there are sections designated for redemption and freedom; therefore in the Song there are divisions in every verse and every line.
The Song at the Sea, tied to redemption, is structured with many breaks to express openness and expansion.
This is the revelation of the light of Torah, as the Sages said: “Why do the breaks serve? To give space to contemplate between each section.”
The many breaks in the Song allow the soul to pause and absorb new Divine illumination.
And the redemption of Israel leaves an imprint in the Torah.
Redemption is not merely historical; it becomes inscribed into Torah itself.
And the hidden storehouses of Torah unfold.
Through redemption, deeper layers of Torah are opened and revealed.
And this is what is meant by “Then Moses will sing… this [song].”
The Song marks the moment when such revelations become accessible.
For the time had arrived for these lights to be revealed in the Torah.
The unfolding of the Song signals that the spiritual lights of redemption were now ready to shine openly.
Summary: The Sefat Emet teaches that the structure of the Song at the Sea reflects the revelation of new Divine light opened through Israel’s redemption, allowing hidden dimensions of Torah to unfold.
