Yisro Repairing Amalek's Damage
הקדמת יתרו קודם קבלת התורה.
The arrival of Yitro before the giving of the Torah.

נראה כי עמלק רצה להרוס מתן תורה.
It appears that Amalek sought to destroy the giving of the Torah.
Amalek’s attack was not merely physical; it was aimed at undermining the revelation itself.
וע"י יתרו ניתקן מה שקילקל עמלק כדאיתא במדרש לץ תכה ופתי יערים כו'.
And through Yitro was repaired what Amalek corrupted, as the Midrash says: “Strike the scoffer, and the simple will become wise.”
Yitro’s recognition of God countered Amalek’s denial, guiding the nations toward reverence.
דהנה מתן תורה הי' לתקן מעשה בראשית.
For the giving of the Torah was meant to repair the work of Creation.
The revelation at Sinai completes what was unfinished in the early stages of creation.
כמ"ש ב' אלפים תהו.
As it is said: “Two thousand years of chaos.”
Before the Torah was given, the world lacked its proper spiritual structure.
ובמתן תורה ניתקן העולם.
And with the giving of the Torah, the world was repaired.
Sinai restored balance and purpose to creation.
ובאמת יש להבין למה עשרה מאמרות קיימים לעולם.
And indeed we must understand why the Ten Utterances sustain the world.
The Sefat Emet asks why creation endures through God's original speech.
וכל הבריאה קיימת במאמרו ית'.
For all creation exists through His utterance.
Creation has ongoing dependence on divine speech.
ועשרת הדיברות צריכין ג"כ להתקיים.
And the Ten Commandments must likewise be fulfilled.
The revelation at Sinai also requires ongoing human acceptance.
רק שהוא חסרון המקבלים.
Only that the deficiency lies in the recipients.
The barrier is not divine but human receptivity.
והנה בנ"י מסרו נפשם לקבלת התורה והקדימו נעשה לנשמע.
And the Children of Israel devoted themselves to receiving the Torah and proclaimed “We will do” before “We will hear.”
Israel’s self‑nullification enabled Sinai’s revelation to succeed.
רק כל האומות היו צריכין לבטל עצמם לבנ"י.
But all the nations also needed to nullify themselves before Israel.
Universal submission to Israel’s spiritual role was necessary for total cosmic repair.
והי' ניתקן הכל.
And then everything would have been repaired.
The world’s full rectification depended on universal acknowledgment.
ובאמת נתבטלו כדכ' שמעו עמים ירגזון.
And indeed they did submit, as it is written: “Nations heard and trembled.”
The nations were shaken by the revelation and yielded—at least outwardly.
לבד עמלק.
Except for Amalek.
Amalek refused to accept the divine revelation.
אף שהבין גדולת בנ"י וממשלת השי"ת.
Even though he understood the greatness of Israel and the dominion of God.
Amalek acted in full awareness, not ignorance.
עכ"ז בא וילחם ומסר נפשו ע"ז לרעה.
Nevertheless he came and fought, giving his life for this evil.
His self‑sacrifice was directed toward opposition to holiness.
ולכן הקב"ה ימחה את שמו.
Therefore the Holy One will blot out his name.
Such deliberate opposition earns total erasure.
ויתרו תיקן שכל האומות נמשכו אחריו.
But Yitro repaired this, for all the nations were drawn after him.
Yitro’s recognition of God realigned the nations toward sanctity.
ולא אחר עמלק.
And not after Amalek.
Yitro redirected the world’s spiritual influence away from Amalek’s denial.
ובוודאי כל הקילקולים שנעשה אח"כ בעגל.
And certainly all the later corruptions, such as the Golden Calf,
The Sefat Emet traces later failures back to earlier spiritual breaches.
הכל הי' ע"י עמלק הרשע ימח שמו.
All of them came through the wicked Amalek—may his name be erased.
Amalek’s influence continued to distort Israel’s spiritual path.
