ימי הספירה מסייעין לאדם.

The days of Sefirah assist a person.

The Sefas Emes opens with the idea that the days of Sefiras HaOmer are not spiritually neutral — they actively help a person in his avodah.

שבאותן הימים נהפכו אבותינו משעבוד חומר ולבנים עד להיות מוכן לקבל התורה.

For in those very days our forefathers were transformed from the bondage of mortar and bricks until they became fit to receive the Torah.

During this same stretch of days at the original Yetzias Mitzrayim, Bnei Yisrael rose from the lowest state of slavery to the level of readiness to receive the Torah at Sinai.

ממילא גם עתה הזמן מסייע.

Consequently, even now this time assists [a person].

Because that transformation was imprinted into these calendar days, the same elevating power is renewed in them every year, helping us prepare for Kabbalas HaTorah anew.

וכן שמעתי ממו"ז ז"ל על הגמ' כולהו שקיינא מפסחא עד מעצרתא כו':

And so I heard from my grandfather z"l regarding the Gemara: "all waterings (kulhu shakyana) [are beneficial] from Pesach until Atzeres," etc.

He cites his grandfather's teaching on the Gemara that the rains and "waterings" between Pesach and Shavuos are especially beneficial — a hint that this entire period carries a special power of growth and ripening, both physically and spiritually.

Summary: The days of Sefiras HaOmer carry an inherent power to help a person grow, because in these very days our forefathers were transformed from the depths of slavery into a people ready to receive the Torah. That elevating force is renewed each year, as hinted in the Gemara that the "waterings" from Pesach until Atzeres are especially beneficial — this season nurtures spiritual ripening toward Kabbalas HaTorah.
