“It is written: ‘To Him Who performs great wonders alone, for His kindness endures forever.’”
The Sefat Emet begins by noting the verse that attributes wonders to God alone, highlighting that His kindness is eternal.
“And in the Zohar, Parashat Balak, it explains that God performs a miracle for a person and does not inform any creature; only He alone knows. For example: a snake comes to bite him, and a stone falls upon the snake and kills it.”
The Sefat Emet brings a Zoharic teaching: many divine salvations occur without human awareness. God alone perceives the miracle’s full scope.
“One may say that the wonders God performed for all Israel—even though they saw them—yet He alone knows their greatness, for they are for all generations.”
Even public miracles like the Exodus were only partially understood by those who witnessed them. Their true magnitude extends through all generations, and only God grasps their full depth.
“And this is the meaning of: ‘For His kindness endures forever.’”
The eternal impact of these miracles is what the verse refers to: divine kindness that continues endlessly.
“For these wonders bear fruit continually, as it is said: ‘In every generation a person must see himself as though he came out.’”
The miracles of the Exodus are not historical events only; they continually bear spiritual fruit, renewing liberation in every generation.
“And it is written: ‘And us He brought out.’”
Scripture speaks in the present: every Jew in all generations participates in the Exodus’s redemptive energy.
“Therefore we are commanded to remember the Exodus every day.”
The daily remembrance affirms that the Exodus is an ongoing spiritual process renewed constantly.
“For the redemption from Egypt is renewed every single day.”
Redemption is not a past event but a continuous unfolding present within daily life.
“And within each and every soul of Israel in particular.”
Every individual soul experiences its own personal dimension of the Exodus’s renewal.
“And all of this was included in those wonders, and He alone knows them, for they are immeasurable, for His kindness endures forever.”
The totality of every future redemption is encoded in the original miracles. Only God comprehends their limitless depth.
Summary: The Sefat Emet teaches that the miracles of the Exodus are eternal, renewing themselves daily for every soul. Their full magnitude is known only to God, whose kindness extends through all generations.
