Daily Renewal of Creation
In the Midrash it is said: just as they are whole, so too are their years whole.
The Midrash teaches that the completeness of the righteous is reflected in the completeness of their years; their life-span mirrors their inner wholeness.
As it is written: “He renews the work of Creation every day continually.”
This verse reveals that divine creation is not a one-time act but a constant renewal, sustaining existence at every moment.
“Continually” means without interruption, when there is renewal from the Source.
True continuity depends on constant renewal flowing from the divine origin; when the Source is felt, there is no break in life or holiness.
And this renewal applies to the whole, as it is said: “And God saw all that He had made,” etc.
The renewal is not limited to individuals but encompasses all creation, for the divine gaze sustains the totality of existence.
So too, when the 365 days unite and become one, upon that unity rests the providence of God.
When time itself is gathered into unity—when the cycle of days forms a single whole—divine oversight is revealed upon it.
As it is written: “The eyes of the Lord are upon it… from the beginning of the year.”
This verse hints that divine attention spans the entire year as one continuous act of care, from its beginning to its end.
This applies at all times, when time is elevated to its beginning and unity—and this depends upon the service of the human being.
Human spiritual work can raise time itself back to its divine root, transforming scattered moments into a unified sacred flow.
The 365 sinews correspond to the 365 negative commandments.
Each prohibition aligns with a part of the human body, teaching that restraint sanctifies the physical form.
Through this, the body is joined to the soul.
By observing these commandments, the physical and spiritual aspects of a person become harmonized.
For the blood is the soul, and the sinews connect the body to life.
The life-force flows through the body by means of the sinews, symbolizing the channels through which spirit animates matter.
The hint is that through the 365 prohibitions, the body is nullified before the soul, and unity is achieved.
When one refrains from what is forbidden, the body yields to the soul’s dominion, and the person attains inner oneness.
And according to the unity and wholeness found within a person, so too do time and the 365 days become united.
The harmony within the human being reflects and determines the harmony of time itself; inner unity draws cosmic unity.
Summary: The Sefat Emet teaches that divine renewal continually sustains creation. When a person attains inner wholeness and aligns body and soul through faithful observance, time itself becomes unified under divine providence, revealing the oneness of all existence.
