Exodus as Renewal of Creation
במדרש כובד אבן כו' וכעס אויל כבד כו'.
“In the Midrash: ‘A stone is heavy… and the anger of a fool is heavier…’”

כי כל מה שברא הקב"ה בעולמו לכבודו ברא.
“For everything the Holy One created in His world, He created for His glory.”
The world has one true purpose: to reveal God’s glory.
והרשעים שאינם מאמינים בהקב"ה ואומרים כי העולם קדמון.
“But the wicked, who do not believe in God and say the world is primordial…”
Those who deny creation strip the world of its divine meaning.
או שאין הקב"ה משגיח ומנהיג העולם כולו.
“Or who say that God does not supervise and govern the entire world…”
Denying Divine providence further erases the world’s purpose.
מאבדין את העולם.
“They destroy the world.”
Such beliefs undermine the very foundation of creation’s meaning.
כי עיקר תכלית הבריאה להעיד על הבורא.
“For the essence of creation’s purpose is to testify to the Creator.”
Creation itself functions as a witness that points back to God.
ולכן ביצ"מ שנתברר כבוד מלכותו בעולם הוא ממש חידוש העולם.
“Therefore, at the Exodus, when His royal glory became revealed in the world, it was truly a renewal of creation.”
Revelation of God’s sovereignty renews reality itself.
ולכן כ' החודש הזה לכם אין לכם חידוש אחר מזה.
“Thus, ‘This month shall be for you’ — you have no greater renewal than this.”
The sanctification of the month embodies the deepest renewal tied to the Exodus.
לכן איתא האומר ויכולו בש"ק נעשה שותף להקב"ה במ"ב.
“Hence it is said: One who recites ‘Vayechulu’ on Shabbat becomes a partner with God in Creation.”
Testifying to God’s creation aligns a person with the divine creative purpose.
כי זה תכלית מעשה בראשית.
“For this is the goal of Creation.”
Creation reaches fulfillment when it is recognized as God’s work.
כמ"ש אתה קדשת יום השביעי.
“As it is written: ‘You sanctified the seventh day.’”
Shabbat embodies creation’s completion and its sanctity.
תכלית שמים וארץ.
“The purpose of heaven and earth.”
Shabbat expresses the ultimate meaning of existence.
ולכן ניסן ר"ה המיוחד לבנ"י.
“Therefore Nisan is the special New Year for Israel.”
Nisan reflects Israel’s unique grasp of creation’s purpose.
כי המה יודעים כי זה תכלית הבריאה.
“For they know that this is the purpose of creation.”
Israel understands that creation exists to express Divine will.
ולהם הוא חודש וראשון לחדשי השנה.
“And for them it is the month, the first of the months of the year.”
Nisan frames time around redemption and divine purpose.
והאומות שמחים בעצם הבריאה ולהם תשרי ר"ה שבו נברא העולם.
“But the nations rejoice in the fact of creation itself, and for them Tishrei is the New Year, when the world was created.”
The nations focus on the existence of the world rather than its spiritual aim.
אבל שמחת בנ"י בתכלית ומכוון הבריאה לעשות רצונו ית'.
“But Israel’s joy is in the purpose and intention of creation — to do His will.”
Israel celebrates not the world’s existence, but its divine mission.
ולהעיד על מלכותו.
“And to testify to His kingship.”
Israel’s identity is rooted in witnessing God’s sovereignty.
כמ"ש כי הם חיינו.
“As it is written: ‘For they are our life.’”
Torah and divine service constitute Israel’s true life-essence.
ולכן להם ניסן ר"ה.
“Therefore for them Nisan is the New Year.”
Nisan aligns with Israel’s purpose-oriented worldview.
והם עיקר הבריאה כמ"ש עם זו יצרתי.
“And they are the essence of creation, as it is written: ‘This people I have formed.’”
Israel is central to creation’s meaning.
שזה עיקר היצירה לפי שתהלתי יספרו.
“For this is the essence of creation: that they recount My praise.”
Creation finds fulfillment when Israel reveals God’s glory.
וזה בעצמו עיקר יצ"מ כי הקב"ה ברא העולם לכבודו.
“And this is itself the essence of the Exodus — for God created the world for His glory.”
The Exodus restores creation to its intended purpose.
ולפי שהוא מוטבע בדרך הטבע.
“But since this purpose is embedded within nature…”
Nature can conceal divine intention.
נעשה מצרים והסתרות מכח הטבע.
“Egypt was formed, and concealments, from the power of nature.”
Egypt represents the natural order’s distortion and concealment of God.
ובנ"י זכו לצאת מזה המיצר ולברר האמת.
“And Israel merited to leave this narrowness and clarify the truth.”
The Exodus liberates Israel from nature’s constraints into spiritual clarity.
וזה תיקון הבריאה הוא חשוב ועיקר מהבריאה עצמה.
“And this repair of creation is more important and essential than creation itself.”
Correcting creation’s concealment surpasses the act of creation.
וזכו עי"ז בנ"י להיות חל עליהם אלקותו ית"ש.
“And through this Israel merited that His divinity rests upon them.”
Revelation becomes possible only after leaving Egypt’s constraints.
כמ"ש אנכי ה"א אשר הוצאתיך מא"מ כו'.
“As it is written: ‘I am the Lord your God Who brought you out of Egypt…’”
The giving of the commandments is rooted in liberation.
כיון שנעשו בני חורין לצאת ממאסר הטבע לכן ייחד עליהם שמו ית'.
“Since they became free to leave the imprisonment of nature, therefore He placed His Name upon them.”
Freedom from nature’s constraints allows Israel to bear God’s Name.
The Sefat Emet teaches that creation’s purpose is to reveal God, that the Exodus renews creation by freeing Israel from nature’s concealment, and that Israel’s mission — embodied in Nisan — is to testify to God’s kingship.
