Yisrael's testimony reveals creation's glory

On the verse "And I call as witnesses against them the heavens and the earth..." — my master, my grandfather (Adoni Mori v'Zekeini, the Chiddushei HaRim) explained that through Bnei Yisrael the glory of Heaven is made clear in the work of creation, for Bnei Yisrael clarify that which is written, "The heavens declare (the glory of Hashem)..."
Creation itself testifies to Hashem, but that testimony needs to be brought out and made evident. It is Bnei Yisrael who reveal the inner truth that the heavens and earth proclaim their Creator.
And this happens on the holy Shabbos, which is called "sahadusa (testimony)," for Bnei Yisrael bear witness that "on it He rested..."
Shabbos is the day of testimony: by keeping it, Bnei Yisrael testify that Hashem created the world and rested, openly affirming Him as Creator.
And one may offer a further interpretation: "v'a'idah" can be read in the sense of "adi (adornment)" and ornamentation, for Bnei Yisrael make adornments for the heavens and the earth.
The same word also suggests "adornment." Bnei Yisrael do not merely witness creation — they beautify it, bringing out its hidden grace before Hashem.
And the two interpretations are really one.
Bearing witness and adorning are the same act: revealing the truth of creation is itself what beautifies it.
For through the testimony by which they clarify that everything comes from Hashem —
When Bnei Yisrael make plain that all of existence flows from Hashem, that very clarification accomplishes something.
through this, the heavens and the earth raise up favor (chein) before the Creator, as it is written, "And He saw all that He had made, and behold it was very good."
By being recognized as Hashem's handiwork, creation finds favor in His eyes — this is the "very good" that Hashem saw when He surveyed all He had made.
And this favor, that it was good in His eyes, is what sustains all of creation.
The world endures only because it finds favor before Hashem; that grace is the very force that keeps creation in existence.
And from this, Shabbos comes about.
Once creation has been brought to favor before Hashem, it reaches its completion and rest — and that fulfillment is Shabbos.
As it is written immediately afterward, "the sixth day... and they were completed (vayechulu)..."
The Torah's sequence shows it: only after "it was very good" do we read of the world being completed and brought into the rest of Shabbos.
And all of this comes about through the testimony of Yisrael.
The whole process — favor, sustenance, and the rest of Shabbos — depends on Bnei Yisrael bearing witness to Hashem as Creator.
And so it is written, "Yisrael, in whom I take pride (espa'er)."
Hashem's glory (tiferes) is bound up with Yisrael; through them His beauty is revealed in the world.
"And He said to me, 'You are My servant...'" — this refers to the weekdays, the aspect of avodah (labor/service).
"You are My servant" speaks of the six working days, when the avodah of serving Hashem through our toil takes place.
And through the avodah of the weekdays, the tiferes (glory) is established on Shabbos, for all the deeds of the weekdays have their ascent on Shabbos.
The labor of the six days is not left behind; on Shabbos it is gathered up and elevated, and the glory in which Hashem takes pride in Yisrael is fulfilled.
Summary: Bnei Yisrael are the witnesses who reveal that all of creation comes from Hashem, and in doing so they also adorn it — for clarifying creation's truth is what beautifies it. This testimony brings creation to favor before Hashem, the favor that sustains the world and culminates in Shabbos. The avodah of the weekdays is then elevated on Shabbos, where Hashem's glory in Yisrael is fulfilled.
