ברש"י שר מבע"ל מהו ישיר עלה בלבו שישיר כו'.
In Rashi: What is the meaning of “will sing”? It arose in his heart that he would sing, etc.
The Sefat Emet cites Rashi’s explanation that the future tense “will sing” refers to a thought of singing that arose in the heart.
כי הוא דבר לשעה ולא נופל בו לשון ההוה ע"ש.
For it was a momentary event, and therefore the present tense does not apply.
This clarifies why the Torah avoids the usual grammatical form; the event was unique in time.
וי"ל כי השירה למעלה מהזמן כי איך יוכל להיות עפ"י טבע שאמרו כל ישראל מלה במלה.
But one may say that the song is beyond time, for how could it be natural that all Israel said it word for word?
The miraculous unity of the people’s singing indicates an act that transcends temporal limits.
רק שהי' ברוה"ק כמ"ש בזוה"ק.
Rather, it was through divine inspiration, as stated in the Zohar.
The unity of the song derives from a shared prophetic infusion.
וזהו עצמו מקום המחשבה שלמעלה מהטבע ושם הוה ועבר ועתיד הכל אחד.
And this is the realm of thought beyond nature, where past, present, and future are one.
The Sefat Emet places the Song at the Sea within a timeless spiritual dimension.
וזהו עצמו פי' ישיר כי הי' להם מדריגה גבוה שעלו למקור התורה שהרי המשיכו דברי השירה לעולם.
And this explains “will sing”: they reached a high level, rising to the source of Torah, for they drew the words of the Song into eternity.
“Will sing” implies that the song echoes through all generations, sourced from eternal Torah.
וז"ש ישיר כו' השירה כו' לאמר.
Thus it says “will sing … the song … saying.”
The repeated phrasing underscores its lasting spiritual transmission.
וזה כל ענין השירה להיות נדבק בשורשו.
And this is the essence of the Song: to cling to its root.
Song functions as an act of reconnecting creation to its divine source.
כמ"ש זה אלי כו'.
As it is written: “This is my God,” etc.
The people recognized God directly, with clarity.
הפי' שכל אחד הכיר כי כחו וחיותו הוא מהשי"ת.
Meaning that each person recognized that his strength and life came from God.
Revelation at the Sea awakened a personal awareness of divine vitality.
כי בגלות נסתר זה ואחר גמר הגאולה נתגלה להם כי השי"ת הוא מחי' כל הנבראים.
For in exile this is hidden, but after the redemption they saw that God gives life to all beings.
Redemption restores clear perception of divine sustenance.
וז"ש ויאמינו בה' אף כי גם מקודם כתיב ויאמן העם.
Thus: “They believed in God,” even though earlier it says, “The people believed.”
The belief after the Sea differed in depth from the earlier, more general faith.
אבל יש אמון רבתא ומקטני אמנה כמ"ש במד' בראשית ואהי' אצלו אמון כו' פדגוג כו'.
But there are great and lesser forms of faith, as in the Midrash: “I was by Him an amun,” meaning pedagogue, etc.
Faith has levels, nurturing the soul as a teacher guides a child.
והכל בחי' אמונה שגם מה שנסתר בהטבע ע"י אמונה נמשך כל הטבע לשורשו ג"כ שהבריאה ע"י התורה.
And all is an aspect of faith: even what is hidden in nature, through faith, is drawn back to its root, for creation is through Torah.
Faith reconnects the natural world to its Torah-rooted origin.
ועתה הי' אמונה שלימה שנתברר כח הבריאה. שרק מהשי"ת.
And now the faith was complete, for it became clear that the power of creation comes only from God.
The revelation at the Sea affirmed pure monotheistic creation.
ונתמשכו אחרי שורש החיים.
And they were drawn after the Source of life.
Redemption pulled them toward higher spiritual attachment.
והי' זה הכנה לקבלת התורה שהרי דברי השירה הם דברים הכתובים בתורה שהמשיכו ע"י האמונה כנ"ל.
And this was preparation for receiving the Torah, for the words of the Song are words written in the Torah, drawn forth through faith.
The Song anticipates Sinai because it is already Torah emerging through faith.
ובמד' נכון כסאך אע"פ שמעולם אתה לא נתיישבה כסאך אלא מאז ישיר כו'.
And in the Midrash: “Your throne is established,” though it was not settled until “then sang…”
The divine throne becomes fully manifest only when creation reveals its spiritual root.
והוא כנ"ל שאחר קי"ס נגלה כבוד מלכותו ית' להיות מבורר בכל דבר קטן וגדול שהוא מחיותו ית'.
This is as said: after the Sea, His kingship was revealed, clarified in every small and great thing as deriving from His life-force.
The miracle illuminated divine vitality permeating all creation.
וזה נתיישבה כסאך שיהי' פנימיות החיות מיושב וקבוע בתוך כל נברא שהוא כסא לנקודה הקדושה השרויה שמה.
And this settled the throne: that the inner life-force became fixed within each creature, which is a throne for the holy point residing there.
Every being becomes a vessel for divine presence.
וזהו אז שז' ימי הבנין דביקין בשורש העליון שהוא למעלה מהטבע.
And this is “then,” when the seven days of creation cling to the upper root beyond nature.
The world reconnects to its transcendent origin.
מי כמוכה באלים.
“Who is like You among the mighty?”
A declaration that no force exists independent of God.
הפי' כמ"ש בזוה"ק ע"פ אין צור כאלקינו שכח כל הכחות רק מחיותו ית'.
As the Zohar explains: “There is no rock like our God,” for all powers derive only from His life-force.
All apparent forces are merely expressions of divine vitality.
וזהו נאדר בקודש אף שכל הכחות ממנו יתברך אעפ"כ קדושה ונבדלת הנקודה הקדושה שבתוך כל דבר.
And this is “glorious in holiness”: though all powers come from God, nevertheless the holy point within each thing is distinct.
Holiness is the unique, elevated divine spark embedded within creation.
עושה פלא.
“Doing wonders.”
Even within physical acts, a wondrous divine element is present.
שגם במעשה גשמיות יש ממנו ית' נקודה נפלאת ומובדלת כמ"ש נפלאות עשה.
For even in physical actions there is a wondrous, distinct point from Him, as it says: “He has done wonders.”
The physical world holds hidden miraculous holiness.
וכ"כ רמ"א ז"ל באו"ח על ומפליא לעשות שנדבק הנשמה בגשם האדם ע"ש.
And so wrote the Rema on “Who works wonders”: that the soul is bound to the physical body.
The union of body and soul is itself a divine miracle.
The Sefat Emet teaches that the Song at the Sea transcends time, arises from divine inspiration, reveals God’s life-force in all creation, and prepares Israel for receiving the Torah by reconnecting the world to its holy root.
