“All the days of your life — to include the days of the Messiah.”

The Sefat Emet opens by explaining that the command to remember the Exodus on all the days of one’s life extends even into the messianic era.

As it is written: “As in the days of your going out of Egypt, I will show you wonders.”

This verse teaches that the future redemption will mirror and expand upon the Exodus, revealing new wonders.

But it is difficult, for they left in one day and in one hour.

The question arises: why does the verse speak of “days” of the Exodus if the actual departure occurred in a single moment?

Rather, “days” refers to illuminations.

The Sefat Emet answers that the “days” of the Exodus refer not to chronological time but to spiritual lights that emerged.

And behold, in every generation the illuminations from the Exodus spread further, and when all these illuminations are completed, from this will come the future redemption.

The Exodus released spiritual energies that continue to unfold over history, and their full expression will culminate in the final redemption.

As it is taught, the Exodus was a preparation for all future redemptions.

The initial redemption serves as the foundation for every later deliverance.

And according to the extent that one engages with and remembers the Exodus every day, so will the future wonders increase.

The more we actively recall the Exodus, the more we draw down the divine wonders that shape the redemption to come.

For one must believe that there is an Exodus at every moment, and according to the telling and engagement with the Exodus, so it is fulfilled in actual reality.

The Sefat Emet teaches that the Exodus is a continual spiritual process that becomes real through our speech and contemplation.

As it is said: “In every generation a person must see himself…”

This obligation reflects the ongoing nature of redemption as something personally experienced.

And it concludes: “He redeemed us with them,” as has already been explained elsewhere.

Our own redemption is bound up with the original redemption of Israel.

And when all the days become included in the day of your going out of Egypt, from this the days of the Messiah will come.

When all moments harmonize with the spiritual essence of the Exodus, the messianic era will emerge.

And this is what is meant by “so that you remember… all the days of your life — to include the days of the Messiah,” understand this.

The mitzvah to remember the Exodus contains within it the seed of the ultimate redemption.

The Sefat Emet teaches that the Exodus is a continuing spiritual process whose illuminations unfold through history; by remembering and engaging with it daily, we draw closer to the messianic redemption that completes these lights.
