Knowing God Through Retelling

Bo · תרל"ה (1874) · Essay 4
ולמען תספר כו' וידעתם כי אני ה' כו'.

“So that you may tell … and you shall know that I am the Lord …”

The Sefat Emet hints that this verse teaches a direct link between recounting the Exodus and attaining knowledge of God.

יש לרמוז בזה הפסוק כי ע"י הסיפור ביצ"מ זוכין לדעת את ה' וכדאיתא כל המרבה לספר ביצ"מ ה"ז משובח שזוכה לדעת כנ"ל:

This verse alludes that through telling the story of the Exodus one merits to know God, and as it is taught: “Whoever increases in telling the story of the Exodus is praiseworthy,” for he thereby merits this knowledge.

The act of recounting the Exodus is not merely remembrance but a spiritual practice that opens a person to deeper divine awareness; the more one tells, the more one awakens this inner knowledge.

Summary: Recounting the Exodus is itself a path to knowing God; increasing the telling increases the revelation of divine awareness.
