Truth conquers a world of falsehood

The matter of Yaakov, who took the brachos through cunning, and this was good in the eyes of Hashem — from this we learn that in order to attain the truth truly, one is permitted to act by way of cleverness.

Yaakov's "deception" in taking the brachos was approved by Hashem, teaching that when the goal is to reach genuine truth, even a strategy of cunning can be a legitimate avodah.

As Chazal said: "Be cunning in yiras Shomayim."

The Gemara itself instructs a person to use shrewdness in the service of fearing Heaven.

Rashi explained: to use every kind of cunning for the fear of one's Creator.

Cleverness is not inherently negative; it becomes holy when harnessed entirely toward yiras Shomayim.

Since the essential desire is to arrive at the truth, it is not included in the category of falsehood — on the contrary, this is the rectification of falsehood.

When a roundabout means serves a true end, the "falseness" of the means is actually elevated and repaired, not transgressed.

As we find: "I will sin and then do teshuvah" — such a person is not granted the opportunity to do teshuvah.

Chazal warn against deliberately sinning with the intent to repent afterward; the Sefas Emes brings this as the mirror image of the principle he is developing.

And the reason is that through the teshuvah the sin itself becomes a sin — see there.

Because the teshuvah was made into a tool to permit the sin, the very repentance retroactively defines the act as a real aveirah.

So too in the reverse direction.

The same logic of means and ends now applies in the positive case.

That one acts cunningly in order to arrive at the truth.

Here the seemingly "false" means is employed precisely so as to reach emes.

Since through the falsehood one arrives at the truth, he thereby rectifies the falsehood, as above.

When falseness is bent toward a true purpose, it is redeemed and lifted up rather than committed as a sin.

And surely in this world, which is called "the world of falsehood" (alma d'shikra), it was the intention of Hashem that one arrive at the truth specifically through this.

Olam hazeh is built upon concealment and falseness precisely so that a person's labor to break through it and reach truth becomes the very purpose of creation.

And through the true point in a person's heart, he is able to stand against bundles of falsehood.

The nekudah amitis (true inner point) within every Jew gives him the strength to withstand vast accumulations of deception.

For falsehood has no legs and has no true endurance.

Sheker is inherently unstable; lacking any real foundation, it cannot ultimately stand.

Therefore a single point of truth nullifies a great deal of falsehood.

Because emes alone has substance, even one small point of it can dissolve a large mass of sheker.

And this is the meaning of "one spark goes forth… and burns…" in Parshas Vayeishev.

The Midrash that a single nitzotz (spark) from the house of Yaakov consumes the house of Eisav expresses how one true point overcomes all the kochos of falsehood.

Summary: Yaakov's taking of the brachos through cunning teaches that means which appear "false" are sanctified when aimed at genuine truth; in this olam d'shikra Hashem's intent is that we break through falsehood, and the single true point in the heart of every Jew has the power to nullify vast bundles of sheker.
