In the Midrash: "Wisdom has built her house" (Mishlei 9:1), etc.

The Sefas Emes opens with the verse about Chochmah (wisdom) building her house, which Chazal connect to the construction of the Mishkan.

I have already written about this elsewhere, so I will write the matter in brief.

Having discussed this theme before, he will here record only a condensed version of the idea.

For the purpose of all wisdom and all building is to merit siyata diShmaya (Heavenly assistance).

The goal of every human wisdom and every structure we build is ultimately to make ourselves fit to receive help from Above — not the achievement itself, but the divine assistance it draws down.

Therefore everything created during the days of Bereishis (Creation) is a preparation for man.

The whole of creation was fashioned as a setting and preparation for the human being, who completes its purpose.

And man must draw down blessing on Shabbos Kodesh — and this is the neshamah yeseirah (additional soul) that comes on Shabbos Kodesh.

Man's role is to channel blessing into the world, and the vehicle for this is the extra soul granted on Shabbos, through which the week's work is elevated and crowned.

And likewise in the building of the Mishkan, the purpose came afterward, on the eighth day.

Just as the workweek culminates in Shabbos, the entire construction of the Mishkan found its purpose only on the eighth day of its inauguration, when the Shechinah rested upon it.

"And He called to Moshe" (Vayikra 1:1), and concerning Moshe it is written "Call to Aharon," etc. — and this means the joining together of all of them, in the manner of "And one called to another" (Yeshayahu 6:3).

The language of "calling" expresses connection: Hashem calls Moshe, Moshe calls Aharon, just as the angels call to one another — each link binding the lower to the higher in an ascending chain of unity.

And this is the meaning of "she sent forth her maidens, she calls" (Mishlei 9:3), as it is written: "And the man called names" (Bereishis 2:20).

"Calling" in the verse about wisdom parallels Adam's naming of the creatures — an act of "calling" that connects each created thing to its source.

For man must connect every thing to its root.

The human task is to bind each detail of creation back to its spiritual source in Hashem.

And this is the "calling of names" — when the structure becomes joined to its root.

Naming, or "calling," is precisely this act of connection, when the finished structure is reattached to its higher root.

This is "on the eighth day He called."

The "calling" of the eighth day represents the moment the completed Mishkan was bound to its divine source.

And so HaKadosh Baruch Hu arranged in all matters that there is one thing that connects all the details below it.

Hashem built into every realm a single unifying point that gathers and connects all the particulars beneath it to their root.

And so in the realm of "world" (space) it was the Bais Hamikdash.

In the dimension of space, the Bais Hamikdash is that unifying point that connects the entire world to its source.

"Upon which Your Name is called" (cf. Melachim I 8).

The Mikdash is the place where Hashem's Name rests — the spatial channel of connection to Him.

And in the realm of "year" (time) it is the mikra'ei kodesh (the holy appointed times).

In the dimension of time, the festivals are the unifying points that bind the whole year to holiness.

And in the realm of "soul" (man), "and Your Name... You have called upon us."

In the dimension of soul, Bnei Yisrael themselves are the unifying point, the people upon whom Hashem's Name is called.

For these three are the highest in rank, and are designated to receive the blessing from Hashem Yisborach.

The Bais Hamikdash (space), the festivals (time), and Bnei Yisrael (soul) are the three foremost channels — each the unifying point of its domain — through which Hashem's blessing flows into all of creation.

Summary: The purpose of all wisdom and building is to merit siyata diShmaya, and all of creation is a preparation for man, who must connect every thing back to its root. This "calling" or connecting reaches its purpose on an "eighth day" — like the Mishkan's inauguration and like Shabbos crowning the week. In each domain Hashem set one unifying point that links all details to their source: the Bais Hamikdash in space, the festivals in time, and Bnei Yisrael in soul — the three foremost channels for receiving His blessing.
