Shabbos as the Menorah of time
The juxtaposition of the parsha of the Menorah to the Moadim (festivals): for just as the seven lamps of the Menorah in the Mikdash gave light to the whole world.
The Torah places the Menorah next to the festivals to teach a parallel: the seven lamps of the Menorah illuminated the entire world from the Bais Hamikdash.
So too in the dimension of time it may be said that Shabbos is the Menorah — fifty Shabbosos in a year, corresponding to the count of the flowers, cups, knobs, and seven lamps together.
Within time, Shabbos functions as the Menorah. The roughly fifty Shabbosos of the year match the total of the Menorah's decorative parts — its flowers, cups, and knobs — together with its seven lamps.
And the seven festival-days — the two days of Pesach and of Sukkos, plus Shavuos, Rosh Hashanah, and Yom Kippur — are the seven lamps.
Counting the two outer days of Pesach and Sukkos together with Shavuos, Rosh Hashanah, and Yom Kippur yields seven festival lights, paralleling the Menorah's seven lamps.
For the light of Shabbos spreads out into the seven festivals.
Just as the Menorah's central body feeds its seven lamps, the illumination of Shabbos radiates outward and fills the seven festivals.
And likewise in the soul (nefesh): the seven openings in the head give light to the entire soul.
The same sevenfold pattern appears in the human being — the seven apertures of the head (two eyes, two ears, two nostrils, the mouth) channel illumination to the whole soul.
And likewise the seven tzaddikim who give light to all the souls.
On the level of all of Klal Yisrael, the seven shepherds — the foundational tzaddikim — serve as the lamps that illuminate every Jewish soul, completing the parallel across the worlds of place, time, body, and people.
Summary: The Sefas Emes draws a fourfold parallel built on the seven-lamp Menorah. In place, the Menorah lit the whole world from the Mikdash; in time, Shabbos is the Menorah whose light spreads into the seven festival-days; in the body, the seven openings of the head illuminate the soul; and among the people, the seven tzaddikim give light to all souls — each a "Menorah" radiating holiness through its sevenfold lights.
