Moshe's Humility and Clear Heart
מרע"ה שהעיד עליו הכ' עניו מאוד כו'.
“Moses our teacher, about whom Scripture testifies that he was exceedingly humble…”
The Sefat Emet begins by emphasizing Moses’ unparalleled humility, which is the foundation for everything that follows.
הי' יכול להגיד למה הרעותה.
“(Therefore) he was able to say: ‘Why have You done evil?’”
Because of his true humility, Moses could protest to God without ego; his words arose from pure devotion, not personal grievance.
כי הי' לבו ברור עליו כו' כמ"ש במד' ובר לבב כו':
“For his heart was clear within him, as stated in the Midrash, and ‘one of pure heart,’ etc.”
Moses’ inner clarity—completely free of self-interest—made his heart transparent to divine truth, enabling him to speak boldly and faithfully.
Summary: Moses’ exceptional humility and purity of heart gave him the spiritual authority to question God sincerely, with no trace of self.
