Israel as testimony across world, time, and soul

"The Mishkan of Testimony" (Mishkan ha'Eidus).
He opens with the Torah's name for the Mishkan — the "Tabernacle of Testimony" — and will explain what it bears witness to.
For it is written, "Hashem made everything for His sake (lema'aneihu)," and Chazal expounded this to mean "for His testimony (le'eiduso)."
Chazal read the verse to mean that Hashem created everything so that it would testify about Him.
And there is testimony in [the three dimensions of] world (olam), year (shanah), and soul (nefesh).
Using the classic framework of space, time, and soul, the Sefas Emes says testimony to Hashem exists in each of these three realms.
And it is written, "You are My witnesses, says Hashem." (Yeshayahu 43:10)
Hashem designates Bnei Yisrael themselves as His witnesses in the world.
For Bnei Yisrael are the ones who testify and clarify that "the earth is Hashem's."
The role of Bnei Yisrael is to bear witness, making clear to the world that everything belongs to Hashem.
And the kedushah that is found in the souls of Bnei Yisrael is the testimony in [the dimension of] soul.
The holiness within the souls of Bnei Yisrael is the testimony of the "nefesh" dimension.
And the kedushah that is found in the Shabbosos and festivals is the testimony in [the dimension of] year and time.
The holiness of Shabbos and Yom Tov is the testimony of the "shanah"/time dimension.
And the kedushah that is found in the Mishkan and the Mikdash is the testimony upon [the dimension of] world.
The holiness of the Mishkan and Bais Hamikdash is the testimony of the "olam"/space dimension — hence "Mishkan of Testimony."
And all these clarifications, Bnei Yisrael brought out from potential into actuality.
Bnei Yisrael are the ones who actualize this testimony across all three dimensions, turning latent holiness into revealed reality.
And therefore they testify one about the other.
The three forms of testimony — soul, time, and space — mutually confirm one another, all pointing back to Bnei Yisrael as the witnesses.
And regarding Shabbos, it is called "of testimony" (sahaduta), and Bnei Yisrael are the keepers of Shabbos.
The Zohar calls Shabbos "testimony," and since Bnei Yisrael are its guardians, they are again the witnesses in the dimension of time.
And so too "Mishkan of Testimony," and so too regarding the Mikdash it is written, "a testimony for Yisrael, etc." (cf. Tehillim 122:4)
Both the Mishkan and the Mikdash are explicitly called "testimony," paralleling Shabbos — testimony in space as Shabbos is in time.
For this building, in which Bnei Yisrael merited to draw the Shechinah down there, is a testimony to the deveikus (cleaving) and love that is in the hearts of Bnei Yisrael — as it says, the "avodah of the Levi'im," which is a term of deveikus.
The Mishkan testifies that the Shechinah was drawn down because of the deep love and cleaving to Hashem in the hearts of Bnei Yisrael; even the word for the Levi'im's service hints at "joining/cleaving."
And in the time of the Bais Hamikdash the deveikus was expressed in deed, through the korbanos — for this is why it is called a "korban," that everything was brought close and elevated to its root, and the souls of Bnei Yisrael were uplifted in their ascents to the Mikdash of Hashem.
In the era of the Bais Hamikdash this cleaving became concrete through the korbanos, whose very name means "drawing close"; through them all things rose to their source, and the souls of Bnei Yisrael were elevated on their pilgrimages.
And therefore Chazal derived the mitzvah of the machatzis hashekel (half-shekel) even though it is written "ki sisa" (when you lift/count) — for all the avodah in the Mikdash was included in the elevation of the souls of Bnei Yisrael.
The half-shekel is introduced with the word "ki sisa," "when you raise/lift," because the entire purpose of the Mikdash avodah was the raising-up of the souls of Bnei Yisrael.
And it is brought, "renew and bring a korban from the new terumah," meaning that there is found each year a fresh donation and a new ratzon (desire) in the hearts of Bnei Yisrael.
The annual requirement of a "new terumah" reflects that every year a renewed yearning and devotion awakens in the hearts of Bnei Yisrael.
And the truth is that likewise in heaven there is aroused each year a new choosing of Bnei Yisrael in Nissan, which is the Rosh Hashanah for the festivals — and likewise on every festival — and therefore we say "You have chosen us... and uplifted us," for this is renewed on every Yom Tov.
Corresponding to the people's renewed devotion below, Hashem renews His choosing of Bnei Yisrael from Above each year in Nissan and on each Yom Tov; this is why we say "You have chosen us and uplifted us" in the festival davening.
And therefore at three seasons they would take terumah from the chamber (lishkah): before Pesach, Shavuos (Atzeres), and Sukkos (Chag).
The terumah of the Temple chamber was collected three times a year, aligned with the three regalim — each a renewed moment of being chosen.
And Nissan, which is the head of all the festivals.
Nissan stands as the foremost of the three pilgrimage seasons.
In it is the main terumah.
Because Nissan is the head of the festivals, the principal collection of terumah takes place then.
And therefore one must give a "kofer nefesh" (ransom for the soul) by means of the shekalim.
The half-shekel functions as a "ransom for the soul" precisely because the whole avodah is the elevation and renewal of the souls of Bnei Yisrael, who give themselves over anew to Hashem each year.
Summary: The Mishkan is called "of Testimony" because creation exists to testify to Hashem across the three dimensions of olam, shanah, and nefesh — and Bnei Yisrael are His witnesses in all three: through the kedushah of their souls, of Shabbos and Yom Tov, and of the Mishkan/Mikdash. The Mikdash testifies to the deveikus and love in their hearts, expressed through the korbanos that elevate the soul; and since every year (especially Nissan) brings a renewed mutual choosing between Hashem and His people, the half-shekel serves as a yearly "ransom of the soul."
