בענין הפרשה המלוך תמלוך עלינו כו' ויוסיפו כו' שנוא אותו כו'.
Concerning the verse, “Shall you indeed reign over us?” … and “they added still more to hate him.”
The Sefat Emet begins by explaining the brothers’ reaction to Joseph’s dreams and their growing hatred.
כי מדריגת יוסף היא למעלה משאר השבטים כידוע.
For Joseph’s spiritual level is higher than that of the other tribes, as is known.
Joseph embodies a loftier spiritual root than the other brothers, which is central to the Sefat Emet’s approach.
ולכן לא עמדו על דעתו.
Therefore they could not grasp his intention.
His elevated perspective made his motives incomprehensible to them.
ובחי' יוסף הוא כמו בחי' השבת דאיתא בזוה"ק כיון דלא אשתכח בי' מנא מה ברכתא אשתכח בי' והשיב דכולהו ברכאין בי' תליין.
And the aspect of Joseph is like the aspect of Shabbat. As the Zohar states: since Shabbat contains no vessels of its own, from where is its blessing? And it answers: all blessings depend upon it.
Joseph, like Shabbat, appears empty of worldly power, yet is the hidden source sustaining all blessing.
כמו כן לא הי' ניכר כח יוסף בעוה"ז אבל כל הנהגת העולם בו תלוי.
So too Joseph’s power was not apparent in this world, yet the entire governance of the world depends on him.
His influence is concealed but foundational.
ולכן הראה להם בחלום השני שמש וירח וכוכבים משתחוים לו.
Therefore in his second dream he showed them the sun, moon, and stars bowing to him.
The dream symbolizes the world’s entire order aligning under Joseph’s spiritual root.
פי' הנהגת סדר העולם הכל תליא במזל העליון.
This means that the governance of the world’s order depends upon the supernal constellation.
The “mazal” represents the spiritual source behind nature.
שמש ירח כוכבים רומז לג' תפלות שחרית מנחה ערבית.
The sun, moon, and stars allude to the three daily prayers: Shacharit, Mincha, and Ma’ariv.
Each heavenly body corresponds to a different prayer-time.
וכל שורש התפלות לבטל שינוי הזמנים אל השורש.
And the root purpose of the prayers is to nullify the changes of time back to the spiritual root.
Prayer reconnects time-bound reality to timeless divine unity.
ולכן יש ח"י ברכאין למשוך חיות מחי עולמים.
Therefore there are eighteen blessings, to draw life from the Life of all worlds.
The structure of the Amidah reflects channels of divine vitality.
וזהו משתחוים לי שכל הסדר תלוי בכח שלמעלה מהטבע.
And this is “they bow to me”: all worldly order depends upon a power above nature.
The bowing signifies alignment with the transcendent source embodied by Joseph.
וכל הכריעות והשתחויות בתפלה לחבר עוה"ז בחי עולמים.
All bowings in prayer connect this world with the World of Life.
Physical posture bridges lower and higher realities.
בכח ח"י חוליות שבשדרה.
Through the power of the eighteen vertebrae of the spine.
The human body mirrors the structure of prayer.
והכל כח יוסף הצדיק.
And all this is the power of Joseph the righteous.
Joseph channels unity between worlds.
ולכן אחר שהגיד להם זה החלום לא כתיב תוספות שנאה.
Therefore, after he told them this dream, it does not say they added more hatred.
Their hatred did not increase because this dream revealed a higher truth.
רק ויקנאו בו אחיו כי ראו שכחו למעלה מהם.
Rather, “his brothers envied him,” for they saw that his power was above theirs.
Envy replaced hatred once they sensed his superior spiritual level.
כי השבטים הם קיום העולם וי"ב מזלות.
For the tribes correspond to the maintenance of the world and the twelve constellations.
The tribes are aligned with the structure of nature.
ויוסף למעלה מזה הסדר והכל תלוי בו כנ"ל.
But Joseph is above this order, and all depends on him, as said.
Joseph transcends natural cycles.
והנה בחול יש ג' תפלות הנ"ל שהוא חיבור ב' העולמות.
On weekdays there are the three prayers mentioned, which connect the two worlds.
Weekday prayer bridges heaven and earth.
ובשבת יש מוסף.
But on Shabbat there is an additional prayer, Musaf.
Musaf reflects Shabbat’s higher spiritual revelation.
והוא בחי' יוסף הצדיק שבשבת מתגלה הנהגה עליונה למעלה מהטבע.
And this corresponds to Joseph, for on Shabbat a higher, supra-natural governance is revealed.
Joseph’s energy aligns with Shabbat’s transcendence.
וזה הרמז שהוא למעלה מג' בחי' שבימי המעשה.
This hints that it is above the three weekday aspects.
Musaf surpasses the three daily prayers.
גם הג' תפלות בכל יום הוא לתקן הנפש רוח נשמה שבאדם לדבקם בשורשם.
The three daily prayers rectify the nefesh, ruach, and neshamah in a person, reconnecting them to their root.
Each prayer uplifts a different level of the soul.
ובשבת תפלת מוסף על נשמה יתירה.
And on Shabbat, the Musaf prayer concerns the additional soul.
Musaf draws down the “extra soul” of Shabbat.
לכן נק' מוסף.
Therefore it is called “Musaf” (additional).
Its name reflects its function.
וכמו כן הקרבנות במקדש שהיו מעלין הכל להשורש.
Similarly, the offerings in the Temple elevated everything to its root.
Sacrifice paralleled prayer’s work of ascent.
ובשבת קרבן מוסף שהיא למעלה מעולת התמיד בחי' יוסף למעלה מסדר הטבע כנ"ל.
And on Shabbat the Musaf offering stands above the continual offering, like Joseph’s aspect above natural order.
Shabbat Musaf embodies Joseph’s transcendence over routine nature.
Summary: Joseph parallels Shabbat as a hidden, transcendent source sustaining the world. His dreams signify the alignment of natural order and prayer with a higher spiritual root, culminating in the Musaf level that rises beyond weekday structure.
