Torah elevates sparks and draws the far near

In the Midrash: "Hashem is my strength" — when He split the sea for us, Rachav came… when He gave us the Torah, Yisro came…

The Midrash links great revelations of Hashem's power to the drawing-near of outsiders: Rachav at the splitting of the sea, Yisro at Mattan Torah.

For the main purpose of Yetzias Mitzrayim was to elevate the holy sparks (nitzotzei kedushah) that were scattered in every place.

The deeper aim of the Exodus was to gather and raise up the holy sparks dispersed throughout the world.

But also through engagement in Torah one can elevate the holy sparks, as the Ohr HaChaim writes on the verse "If you will hearken to My voice… you shall be My treasure" (Shemos 19:5) — to elevate the holy sparks through engagement in Torah.

The Ohr HaChaim explains that learning Torah itself raises up the scattered sparks of holiness, accomplishing what the Exodus began.

And they would not need to be scattered in galus among the nations — see there.

Had Bnei Yisrael fully kept the Torah, gathering the sparks through learning, they would have been spared dispersion in exile among the nations.

And so it is in the Midrash: "Your name is oil poured forth" (Shir HaShirim 1:3).

The "poured-out oil" of Hashem's name spreads everywhere — hinting that His name (Torah) reaches and elevates the far-flung sparks.

And the entire Torah is the names of HaKadosh Baruch Hu.

Chazal teach that the whole Torah is composed of Hashem's names — so engaging in Torah is engaging with His very names.

And by the power of engagement in Torah, "the maidens love You" (Shir HaShirim 1:3).

Through Torah study even distant "maidens" — those far off — are drawn to love Hashem.

And it is written, "Creator of the speech of the lips: peace, peace to the far and to the near" (Yeshayahu 57:19).

The "speech of the lips" — the words of Torah and tefillah — brings peace and connection both to the near and to the far.

For through the engagement of the mouths of Yisrael in Torah, even the far ones are brought near.

When Bnei Yisrael toil in Torah with their mouths, the spoken words draw even distant souls and sparks close to Hashem.

And so it is written, "Hashem will give strength to His people" (Tehillim 29:11).

The "strength" Hashem gives His people is the Torah — the power referenced in the opening Midrash, "Hashem is my strength."

And through this He will bless His people with peace.

That same strength of Torah brings the blessing of peace, uniting near and far.

And therefore Bnei Yisrael are called "the Shulamis" (HaShulamis).

Bnei Yisrael bear the name "Shulamis," from the root of shalom — for through Torah they spread peace and draw all close.

And therefore Chazal said on the verse, "Hashem gives the word; the women who proclaim the tidings are a great host" (Tehillim 68:12).

Chazal expound this verse about the single divine utterance at Sinai and its vast reach.

That each utterance was divided into seventy languages.

Every word of Hashem at Sinai split into all seventy languages of the nations.

That is, that Bnei Yisrael should have the power to bring near all the languages, as above.

The single utterance reaching all seventy tongues signifies the power given to Bnei Yisrael, through Torah, to draw near every distant nation and spark — the very theme of Rachav and Yisro joining at moments of revelation.

Summary: The purpose of the Exodus — gathering the scattered holy sparks — can equally be achieved through engagement in Torah, which is composed of Hashem's names. The "strength" Hashem gives His people is the Torah, and the spoken words of Yisrael draw near both the far and the near (and even the seventy nations), as embodied by Rachav and Yisro joining Klal Yisrael at the great revelations.
