Every individual builds the Mishkan through Moshe
Mishkan · terumah · unity · Moshe Rabbeinu · Shechinah
"And they shall take for Me a terumah (portion) from every man."
The Mishkan is built from a contribution gathered from each and every person in Bnei Yisrael — no one is left out of the work.
The meaning is that each one receives from all the individual parts.
Every Jew is meant to take in something from every other Jew; each person's contribution flows into all the rest.
And then they become one, as is said likewise of the malachei hashareis (ministering angels): they receive from one another and grant permission to one another.
When each person both gives to and receives from the others, Bnei Yisrael fuse into a single unity — mirroring the angels above, who defer to and draw from each other.
And in the Midrash, Moshe Rabbeinu wondered how Bnei Yisrael could possibly make the Mishkan.
Moshe found it hard to believe that ordinary people could produce a dwelling fit for the Shechinah.
And the Holy One, blessed be He, answered him: even a single one can make it.
The power to build the Mishkan is so great that it does not even require the masses — one person alone can accomplish it.
As it is written: "from every man."
The verse's phrasing "every man" hints that the whole can be contained in a single individual.
It can be explained as referring to Moshe Rabbeinu, who is called "ish (man)," as it is written: "And the man Moshe."
The "man" of the verse alludes specifically to Moshe, the one of whom the Torah uses this title.
And he is called "every man," for he includes within himself all of Bnei Yisrael.
Moshe is not merely one individual; as the collective soul of the nation, he encompasses every Jew.
And it is through the power of Moshe Rabbeinu that the Mishkan was made, as is said in the Midrash: "You ascended on high… even the rebellious, that Hashem may dwell" (Tehillim 68:19).
Moshe's ascent to receive the Torah drew down the power to bring the Shechinah to rest among the people — even reaching those who had strayed — and that same power enables the building of the Mishkan.
Summary: The Mishkan is built from the contribution of every individual, who both gives and receives so that all become one. Yet its true power rests in Moshe Rabbeinu, the "ish" who includes within himself all of Bnei Yisrael — through whom even a single person, and even those who have strayed, can become a dwelling place for the Shechinah.
