Torah and Shabbos transcend time to hasten geulah
It is taught in the Gemara: if only Yisrael would keep a single Shabbos [properly], they would immediately be redeemed.
The Sefas Emes begins from Chazal's teaching linking the proper observance of even one Shabbos to immediate geulah.
For it is written "in its time, I will hasten it" — if they merit, "I will hasten it"; if they do not merit, "in its time."
The redemption has a fixed appointed time, but merit can bring it early — "I will hasten it."
And the reason is that it is written "for everything there is a season, and a time... under the heavens."
The Sefas Emes notes that the realm of fixed times and seasons belongs specifically to that which is "under the heavens."
The Torah is above "under the heavens."
The Torah transcends the world of times and seasons entirely.
And everything was created through the Torah.
The Torah is the source of all creation, and therefore stands above it.
And the times and seasons are vessels — the means by which the spreading-forth of the Torah is received at each time and season.
Time itself is merely a set of vessels designed to receive the Torah's light as it expands into the world.
But the Torah itself is above time and above the vessels.
The Torah in its essence transcends both time and the vessels of time.
And this is the aspect of "Torah is light" and "the mitzvah is a lamp."
The Sefas Emes invokes the verse contrasting the lamp (vessel) of the mitzvah with the light of the Torah.
The mitzvos are vessels through which the light of the Torah spreads.
Mitzvos, like times, serve as vessels to carry and contain the Torah's light.
But the light itself is above the vessels — this is the light of the Torah.
The Torah's light, in its own essence, soars above every vessel that holds it.
And when Bnei Yisrael cleave to the Torah,
When Bnei Yisrael bind themselves to the Torah's very essence,
the redemption is near, even without the time designated for it.
they rise above time, so geulah can arrive even before its appointed hour.
And this is the meaning of "it is a time to act for Hashem; they have nullified Your Torah."
The Sefas Emes reinterprets the verse: when the Torah is upheld, there is no need to "fix the time" at all.
For if one upholds the Torah, there is no need to "repair the time."
Keeping the Torah lifts a person above time, so the constraints of the appointed time no longer apply.
Now it is taught that Shabbos should be made entirely [a day of] Torah.
Chazal teach that Shabbos is to be devoted wholly to Torah.
For on the weekdays, "Torah together with derech eretz (worldly occupation) is good," and the weekdays are the "repair of the time."
The six workdays belong to the realm of time, where Torah is paired with worldly involvement.
But on Shabbos there is no labor — only to engage in Torah.
Shabbos, free of labor, is given over entirely to the Torah that transcends time.
Therefore they expounded "today, if you would but heed His voice" as referring to Shabbos, on which one merits the Torah.
The "today" of redemption is read as Shabbos, the day on which Bnei Yisrael attain the Torah that can bring geulah.
And therefore we expound [the Torah publicly] on Shabbos HaGadol and Shabbos Teshuvah.
The custom to teach Torah on these special Shabbosos reflects their connection to redemption.
For Nissan and Tishrei are times of redemption.
Both months are seasons of geulah — Nissan past and Tishrei future.
And it is taught: in Nissan they were redeemed, and in Nissan they are destined to be redeemed.
Chazal teach that Nissan is the month of both the first redemption and the final one.
The meaning of "destined to be redeemed" is that in each and every year there is a redemption in Nissan.
The Sefas Emes explains that "destined to be redeemed" is ongoing — every Nissan carries a fresh measure of geulah.
For the redemption in Nissan left an imprint, so that there is a redemption in every Nissan.
The original Exodus engraved a permanent "reshimah" (imprint) into the month, renewing redemptive power each year.
Therefore we must engage in Torah on Shabbos, which is prepared for this, that perhaps we may merit the aspect of "I will hasten it," as above.
Since Shabbos is uniquely suited to the timeless Torah, devoting it to Torah may earn us the hastened, early redemption.
Summary: The Torah is above the world of fixed times, which are merely vessels to receive its light. When Bnei Yisrael cleave to the Torah itself, geulah can arrive even before its appointed hour. Shabbos, free of labor and devoted wholly to Torah, is the day that transcends time; engaging in Torah on Shabbos — especially in the redemptive months of Nissan and Tishrei — can earn us the hastened redemption of "achishenah."
